Patriots
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Temecula Prep). They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School Mustangs on Thursday. Considering the Patriots have won five games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday’s blowout was nothing new.
Evan Van Winkle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn’t given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That’s the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other batting news, Temecula Prep got a big performance out of Nikolaz Gonzalez, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The Patriots are 5-1 when Gonzalez posts two or more runs, but 0-4 otherwise. Elijah Shubin also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Temecula Prep is on a roll lately: they’ve won four of their last five matchups. That’s provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Coming up, Temecula Prep will take on United Christian Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School, they will challenge San Jacinto Valley Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs’ pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolves have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
