TPS Baseball Breezes Past Cobalt
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Temecula Prep walked away with it. They blew past Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy 22-1 on Tuesday. Considering the Patriots have won 14 games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday’s blowout was nothing new.
Nikolaz Gonzalez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn’t given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 4-for-6 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2 runs per game.
In other batting news, Kevin Baker was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jayden Cuevas, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Temecula Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .550. That’s the best batting average they’ve posted all season.
The win was the third in a row for Temecula Prep, bringing their record up to 15-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-14-1.
Looking ahead, Temecula Prep will square off against Santiago at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
