Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Temecula Prep walked away with it. They came out on top against the Santiago Cavaliers by a score of 6-3 on Friday. The victory was nothing new for the Patriots as they’re now sitting on four straight.
Nikolaz Gonzalez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn’t given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter’s box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Temecula Prep’s success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 15-3 (and 1-8 when he doesn’t).
Gonzalez wasn’t the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cody Servin, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Temecula Prep’s record now sits at 16-11. As for Santiago, their loss dropped their record down to 10-17.
Coming up, Temecula Prep will challenge Rolling Hills Prep at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots’ pitchers better be ready for this one: the Huskies have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. Santiago does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
